About Barbara Bucklin:
Barbara Bucklin is the founder of Vision Luke 4:18 Ministries, a ministry serving the Body of Christ by providing prayer, meeting physical needs of the homeless and poor, and working toward the unity that Jesus so desired. The ministry’s healing and deliverance ministry has become one of the most sought-after services in the city of Austin, attracting people from all walks of life who desire physical and spiritual freedom and restoration. A respected citywide ministry leader, Barb serves on boards and steering committees for numerous inter-church and citywide ministry groups, including Campus Renewal Ministries, Austin Disaster Relief Network, River City Hope Street, Christian Compassion Center, and others, adding both insight and hands-on help. Barb describes her role as a “networker”, bringing together churches, ministries and individuals to “fly in formation” as if they were birds of one flock, and modeling prayer along the way. Bringing the generations together has become a passion for her. Nothing less than transformation of the city and beyond drives everything she does.
Barb, in Her Own Words:
“I was born in Chicago and graduated from Northwestern University. I worked with Smith, Bucklin & Associates, an association management firm for twenty years. I retired with my husband to Santa Fe, NM, where we lived for fifteen years before relocating to Austin. We were wanderers and visited eighty countries.
“We came off the mountain because of my husband's lung problems. I’ve been a resident of Lakeway for 18 years, and a widow for 16.
“I was called to Church under the Bridge in 1998. A prayer meeting in my house was the start of Luke 4:18 Ministries, formed to serve at the Bridge.
“My passions are:
To model a Kingdom mindset,
The empowerment of the priesthood of believers,
To see Jesus’ Luke 4:18 mission accomplished and people saved, healed and delivered,
That all believers would be one, as Jesus prayed in John 17!
“My vision is to see Austin holy and married to the Lord!”
HOW DID YOU COME TO HAVE FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST AS YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR?
"I was sent to church as a child but had no clue as to the possibility of a relational God. There was no God-consciousness in my home. My mother sent me to church as a child, but I had no concept of a relationship with a living God who had a plan for my life. So I wandered in and out of church buildings, searching for something more.
My serious walk with the Lord began about 1994, when I was touched by the Holy Spirit in Santa Fe, New Mexico, during a visit of an itinerant Texas pastor. My walk was transformed and intensified during a 1997 mission trip to Argentina with Ed Sillvoso, of Harvest Evangelism. It was the trip Ed wrote about in his book Prayer Evangelism.
My equipping track has been focused, fast, fulfilling, phenomenal! Virtually all of it has taken place in the last 13 years here in Austin, starting with a women’s Lakeway Bible class (which after 2 years I found myself leading – 70 women from 14 different churches). I was dragged to my first prayer meeting, and then heard Dutch Sheets at Church of the Hills, who opened my eyes to what God had in mind for prayer. I also attended a summer session at Glorietta Baptist center in Glorietta, N.M., where Henry Blackaby taught on Experiencing God in Revival. That fall, the Bible class tackled Experiencing God. It was the start of many amazing encounters with prayer and healing."
WHAT MOTIVATES YOU?
"I’m motivated by the excitement and joy of seeing God working all around me and by the privilege of seeing lives transformed by His joy and love.
WHAT’S YOUR GREATEST JOY?
"My greatest joys are worshipping, seeing others walk free and then celebrating God’s transformational testimonies with His children."
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT AUSTIN? WHERE DO YOU SEE GOD WORKING IN AUSTIN?
I love my friends, the family He has chosen for me, fellowship, food, the beauty of the hills, Monday night Luke 4:18 gatherings that are always full of surprises.
I’ve seen God breaking down walls to form relations of love, trust and respect as He brings unity to the Body of Christ. He is moving the Body outside the four walls of churches to bring direct contact with His harvest, to touch the broken and hurting with the love and compassion of Christ.
Things which seemed very difficult have become easier; i.e., bringing people from all streams together. Intercessors, particularly, are praying as one. “Kingdom come” has become a rallying call. Also, there is now far more desire to serve together without regard to denominational lines. HopeFest is a great example of showing the corporate love of Christ in the city. And cooperation is growing between faith and city and county agencies.
IN WHAT WAYS HAVE YOU SERVED OTHERS? HOW DO YOU LIVE OUT YOUR FAITH THROUGH THE WEEK?
I serve others through individual healing and deliverance prayer; organizing and serving in citywide prayer and compassion efforts such as Global Day of Prayer, HopeFest and Church under the Bridge. I actively serve on boards of Luke 4:18 Ministries, Campus Renewal Ministry, Austin Disaster Relief Network and Christian Women’s Job Corps. My mindset is to see true unity established. Helping to shepherd Sacred Trust and the Watchmen, two groups formed to further Kingdom relationships, is a way of extending that. My house is busy -- officially one of the John G. Lake healing rooms. We are building a team to minister to women and men because so many need and desire healing.
WHAT IS YOUR DREAM FOR AUSTIN?
My dream for Austin is that there would be a great appetite for the presence of God that would allow His Glory to move in the city
WHAT’S THE BEST ADVICE YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED?
Pray for wisdom. Walk through open doors. Let the Lord fight your battles.
DO YOU HAVE A LIFE VERSE OR SCRIPTURE VERSE THAT INSPIRES HOW YOU LIVE?
I’m inspired by Luke 4:18 and Isaiah 61 -- those beautiful verses about how He is the greatest exchange agent -- beauty for ashes, and the oil of joy for mourning. It constantly amazes me that we can partner with Him to see heaven invade earth, that we are able to carry His presence with us and expect miracles as we go in. I’m inspired by His name alone.
WHAT ARE THE TWO BIGGEST THINGS YOU’VE SEEN JESUS DO IN YOUR LIFE?
God gave me such a love for Austin and its people and then granted me favor to do those things that He has given me such a passion for…the desires of my heart. One of my prayers was to see people as He sees them and then help them activate their gifts. It is a joy to partner with Him to see others jump into the river of life.
One dream has been to teach people about both physical and emotional healing so the Body of Christ can walk out of a place of woundedness and see the destiny of individuals and Austin’s corporate destiny fulfilled. That is happening now. Luke 4:18 Ministries sponsors monthly classes at the Austin Baptist Association, attended by all faith streams. I see more teaching in the future, both here and abroad.
Another dream – for the entire Body of Christ to see that we are in a spiritual war, that the enemy is not flesh and blood but principalities and the powers of darkness. We must understand what Paul is talking about in Ephesians 6:10-18 and that Jesus came to destroy the works of Satan. It is our job to recover the ground he has stolen. It is God’s aim that the Body of Christ walk in the Spirit, in divine health, as overcomers by the Blood of the Lamb, the Word of our testimony and that we love not our lives unto death.
